One of the noblest animals and loyal
friends io man is the horse. The first civilizations grew
and were destroyed with the help of the horse. 3400 years
ago, the Hetites wrote a debate on horse dressage, while the
Greek writer Xenofont wrote "On Ihe Art of Riding".
In the Middle Ages, owning a stronger horse set the nobleman
apart from Ihe common man. In the area of the Cetina River,
horses have been present for as long as man can remember.
Some authors have even translated the name of the Cetina River
(the Roman Hipus River) as the"Horse River". The
mountain plateaus and river valleys offer vasl pastures and
therefore horses are a recognizable symbol of this region,
to the extent that the coat of arms of the city of Sinj includes
a horse. There are numerous phrases about horses still used
today, which tell us about the significance of the horse in
the daily life of the residents of this area. Degradation:
"He went from a horse toa donkey!" Power: "Tie
up the horse where your master says!"
Horse breeding in the Cetina region has a three hundred year
tradition, based on a unique equestrian tournament the Sinj
Alka. This tournament has been held in Sinj since 1715 to commemorate
Ihe heroic victory of the population over the Ottoman army.
This honourable knight's competition of the Alkars in their
age old uniforms, aim for a target the alka, a metai ring while
on horseback. The competition is considered to be a moving cultural
monument, and the Alkars and horses prepare all year-round for
this spectacle which takes place before more than ten thousand
visitors each year in the second week of August, and has been
for the past three centuries. In addition to the Alka tournament,
horse races and show jumping have become popular in Sinj and
Trilj, while interest for various forms of recreational and
competition riding has lead to the formation of equestrian clubs.

information
about bike trails |
Whereas we have conveyed
all the bike tracks in Sinj area equipped with
a GPS device, we have decided to publish the
collected data on the web pages. Except for
navigation, this device is also used for the
collection of data about the conveyed tracks.
Thus, we can collect the data on all the relevant
points of the track (crossings, deviations,
accommodation, shops, cultural-historical attractions,
service information …) with maximal possible
accuracy.
The GPS device is used for
satellite navigation. The device receives the
signals from the satellite and by means of them
calculates your exact position and permits you
to orientate in a simple way into the environment.
We have published two sets
of data, in two different formats, that you
can adopt with your GPS device. The published
data refers to the waypoints, the track logs
generated by the GPS and the track route.
All the GPS data published
on the web pages are prepared with maximum care.
Please inform us at our E-mail
address:
info@dalmacija.net
about each imperfection or inaccuracy that
you may notice on our web pages, so we can be
able to complete or correct the data and assure

Cycling is a pleasant and physically
useful activity which offers a maximal joy to
all of its users while they move through the open
air. To assure you a pleasant and safe ride, it
is necessary to observe some basic rules.
1. Ride on open trails only
Respect trail and road closures (ask if not sure),
avoid possible tresspass on private land.
2. Leave no trace
Be sensitive to the dirt beneath you. Practice
low-impact cycling. Stay on existing trails, don't
create new ones. Don't cut switchbacks.
3. Control your bicycle!
Inattention for even a second can cause problems.
Obey all bicycle speed regulations and recommendations.
4. Always yeild trail
Make known your approach well in advance. A friendly
greeting or bell is considerate and works well;
don't startle others.
5. Never spook animals
All animals are startled by an unannounced approach,
a sudden movement or a loud noise. This can be
dangerous! Running cattle and disturbing wildlife
is a serious offense.
6. Plan ahed
Know your equipment, your ability; and the area
in wich you are riding - and prepare accordingly.
Be self-sufficient at all times. Always wear a
helmet and appropriate safety gear.
The described basics are not the only ones. In
one word, be good to yourself and to the others
and you'll have a good time.
We wish you a nice ride! |
